Waste management
Other services
Why is waste management needed?
Waste management helps businesses and municipalities to reduce waste, increase recycling, and handle hazardous substances safely across construction, demolition, and day‑to‑day operations. DGE combines long-term experience in waste management planning with specialist expertise in building contamination surveys and resource mapping to support circular and compliant solutions across the Nordic and Baltic regions.
DGE experts support companies and local authorities with waste strategies, permitting, technology assessments, and landfill closure, while also helping building owners and developers understand both the risks and the resource potential of existing structures and material flows. Together, these services ensure that materials are handled responsibly, valuable fractions are reused or recycled, and environmental and health risks are controlled.
Environmental studies of buildings
Before renovation or demolition, DGE performs environmental studies of buildings to identify hazardous substances such as asbestos, heavy metals, PCB, PAH, and other pollutants in structures and indoor environments. The investigations typically include sampling and analysis of building materials, clear reporting of findings, and practical handling plans that describe how contaminated materials must be removed, separated, and disposed of safely.
Depending on client needs, DGE can manage the entire process or support selected stages, from initial screening and health & safety planning to site supervision and contractor oversight. This reduces the risk of spreading contamination, protects workers and occupants, and ensures that projects comply with applicable regulations and best practice for building pollution management.
Resource mapping and circular use of materials
Resource mapping is used to identify which building materials and other waste streams can be reused, recycled, or otherwise upgraded instead of being treated as residual waste. By mapping materials before demolition or major refurbishment, DGE helps clients separate reusable components and recyclable fractions, creating both environmental and financial benefits through reduced disposal costs and higher resource value.
At the same time, DGE supports companies in optimising their overall resource use – including energy, water, and raw materials – by analysing processes, identifying environmentally harmful substances in production, and recommending cleaner alternatives. This work increases circularity, reduces environmental footprints, and supports climate and resource-efficiency goals in line with modern sustainability requirements.
Waste management planning and permits
In addition to building-related services, DGE offers comprehensive waste management support: site selection for waste treatment facilities, development of landfill closure plans, Best Available Techniques (BAT) assessments for waste technologies, socio-economic demand analyses, municipal waste management plans, and assistance with permits and reporting. These services help clients navigate complex regulations, demonstrate compliance, and implement robust, future‑proof waste systems that support both local and national circular economy objectives.
